I bought this book at the bookstore in the Chinese airport. I've always stopped in at a bookstore whenever I go to the airport, because I've never slept in the airplane (if it's not a time to sleep), so I needed to read. Waiting for the airplane from Chengdu to Lhasa, the traditional capital of Tibet, I dropped in at a bookstore, and could see this book by accident.

The reason I had chosen this book, although it is a little expensive, was because the size of a letter so small that the book seemed to be rich in content. I chose this by appearance, but I think the selection was right.

I don't regard this book as a good travel guide which introduces background information about places to visit, how to get there, where to stay, where to eat. This is not to be compared with colorful book introducing cultural properties with pictures. This book is a little formal style and monotone. But if you want to know the history or culture of Tibet, This will be a wise choice. It contents are broader than thought, (In my opinion, it includes so many things that no web site can be comparable with it except for Wikipedia.) and so very useful. Maybe that would be the characteristic of the Lonely Planet publishing company.

This book has the truth and fact about the culture, history, environment, trekking and so forth of Tibet. But I also think that it would be an inappropriate book for traveler wanting a easy, comfortable, sightseeing tour because of the vastness in content. But─Will those who want an easygoing tour go to Tibet? :)  Well. Anyway, you have a free choice.
